Skåbu is in the middle of Moose's kingdom. Skåbu is the home of Europe's largest Moose trail, spanning from Kittilbu Utmarksmuseum in the south, through Espedalen and Skåbu, and into Glittersjå in Murudalen.
Slightly south of Skåbu in 2014 burnt moose bones were found. The dating showed that the moose lived for approx. 10.000 years ago, and so far is Norway's oldest find of moose along with traces of people.
By the trail in spring, up to 6-700 moose can travel through Skåbu on the way to summer pasture.
